What is the West Virginia Hope Scholarship?
The Hope Scholarship is West Virginia's education savings account, run by the West Virginia State Treasurer's Office. It gives families public education funds to spend on approved expenses, including curriculum, tutoring and instructional materials, and it is the largest school choice program in the state: more than 26,000 students were enrolled for the 2026-2027 school year.
The award for 2026-2027 is $5,435.62 per student, distributed quarterly, and the amount is reset each year against state per-pupil funding.
